Resolution is a more realistic word than promise.

It reminds us that though as easy to make, some may turn out to be just too hard to keep. Let others off the same way we would ourself for not being able to keep say a new-year's resolution. Then again, even a resolution may be too strong a word. Ask of others and ourselves only what we can reasonably do over an extended period of time.
